Manchester Turns Blue As Man City Ease Past United In Manchester Derby

Manchester City outplayed and outscored crosstown rivals Manchester United as Pep Guardiola handed the bragging rights to the Blue half of town with a 3-1 win on Sunday.

It was the 177th Manchester Deby, and Manchester City made history out of it by clinching victory to reclaim the Premier League top spot and, perhaps, the most needed of all, see their second goal hero, Sergio Aguero, equal former Manchester United striker, Wayne Rooney, on the Derby’s goal haul chart.

The champions have opened a two-point gap ahead of Liverpool, four against Chelsea and twelve apart Manchester United, who keeps the 8th position on the table, despite the loss.

The Citizens zoomed into their trademark telepathic play from Anthony Taylor’s whistle and deservedly grabbed the opener in the 12th minute when David Silva received a delightful pass inside the box before slotting it past the David De Gea.

Manchester United struggled to contain Manchester City’s passing game from the recess.

With Jesse Lingard conceding possession on the halfway line, Sergio Aguero was set on the run for a move, having latched onto Riyad Mahrez’s return pass.

The Argentine powered a ferocious shot into the roof of the net to mark his eighth goal against Manchester United in the Premier League to become the joint scorer of the derby alongside Rooney.

Manchester United came into the game in the 58th minute when Anthony Taylor awarded Anthony Martial a penalty after Ederson’s careless slide tackle on the wing-forward in a fifty-fifty challenge.

Martial would give Manchester United a lifeline as he sent the Brazilian goalkeeper the wrong way.

City remained ruthless with the Red Devils still unable to string passes together, and substitute Ilkay Gundogan wrapped up the points by latching on to Bernardo Silva’s incisive pass to hit a low left-footed shot past the onrushing De Gea.
